CNC Machinist – Level 1 (Apprentice)

ROLE SUMMARY
The CNC Apprentice Machinist is an entry-level role responsible for learning the foundational skills required to operate CNC equipment in a precision manufacturing environment. Working under close supervision, this individual performs basic machine setup tasks, assists with operation, and gains experience with reading blueprints, measuring components, and maintaining a safe, organized work area. This role provides a clear pathway toward becoming a multi-skilled CNC Machinist.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Machine Setup & Operation (Foundational)
Assist in setting up production machines following prints and specifications.
Work under supervision to select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments.
Support basic CNC machine operations on lathes, mills, grinders, and related equipment.
Perform basic tool changes, offsets, deburring, cleaning, and chip/coolant management.
Load/unload parts and perform simple production tasks under guidance
Inspection & Measurement
Apply basic math and measurement techniques to verify dimensions and tolerances.
Inspect and measure completed production units to identify defects caused by setup or tooling.
Learn to identify out-of-tolerance conditions and notify senior machinists or leads.
Process Learning & Support
Learn to interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and documentation.
Begin gaining familiarity with CNC controls, tool offsets, work holding, and machine functions.
Start/restart equipment after power interruptions and execute standardized work safely.
Safety & Housekeeping
Maintain a clean and orderly production area at all times.
Follow Titan’s safety procedures, PPE requirements, and ITAR-compliant facility rules.
Participate in safety training, quality training, and continuous improvement activities.
Other Duties
Follow work instructions and safety procedures precisely
Maintain accurate, legible records.
Perform other duties as assigned while learning the full responsibilities of a machinist.
Proactively seek coaching to progress toward independent setup skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience in manufacturing or mechanical trades preferred
Ability to learn machine-tool operation and manufacturing processes
Basic understanding of measurements, math, and mechanical concepts
Ability to interpret simple prints and documentation, with training
Quality assurance or related experience preferred
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Good communication skills; able to receive coaching and direction
Strong analytical and problem-solving foundation preferred
Able to work well under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regular exposure to machining noise, coolant, water, metals, adhesives, and industrial equipment
in a warehouse environment
Standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs with reasonable accommodation
Exposure to chemical and production smells (adhesives, lubricants, and rubber hose materials)
typical of a hydraulic fabrication area
Use of PPE for frequent handling of parts and materials with sharp edges or heavy components
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate safely around industrial equipment
Must comply with all facility safety protocols and ITAR-access restrictions
