CNC Machinist Level 3

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: Senior Production Manager

Type & Location: On-Site | Denver, CO

Status: Full Time | Non-Exempt

ROLE SUMMARY

At Titan Advanced Manufacturing, the CNC Machinist is an advanced, highly skilled tradesperson responsible for full program-to-production ownership. This role performs CNC programming, complex setups, precision machining, troubleshooting, and quality verification for advanced manufacturing projects. The Machinist independently executes work across multiple machine types and operations, blending the responsibilities of Programmer, Setup Technician, and Operator. This position also mentors junior machinists and contributes to continuous improvement, tool selection, and process optimization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programming & Process Development

  • Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs (lathe, mill, multi-axis as applicable).

  • Select tools, speeds, feeds, & machining strategies to maximize efficiency, quality, and tool life.

  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD/CAM files, models, and GD&T.

  • Work with Engineering to validate manufacturability and propose design improvements.

    Advanced Setup & Tooling

  • Perform complete, independent machine setups including fixtures, tooling, offsets, probing, and validation.

  • Design or recommend custom fixtures, work holding methods, and tooling improvements.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, control, and process problems to maintain optimal performance.

    Machining & Production Execution

  • Operate CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other equipment to produce precision components.

  • Adjust machine controls to correct errors or out-of-tolerance conditions.

  • Identify, diagnose, and correct machining problems in real time.

    Inspection & Quality Control

  • Inspect components using advanced metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pins, bore gauges, surface finish tools, CMM if applicable, and comparator).

  • Verify tolerance requirements using GD&T standards and AS9100-driven instructions.

  • Document results and support NCR investigations.

    Mentorship & Continuous Improvement

  • Mentor less experienced machinists in setup, measurement, and machining fundamentals.

  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to cycle time, scrap reduction, tooling improvements, and machine utilization.

  • Recommend process improvements, updated tooling packages, and efficiency enhancements.

    Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain strict adherence to Titan safety standards, AS9100 procedures, and ITAR regulations.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized work environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support high-mix, precision manufacturing workloads.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree in manufacturing, machining technology, or completion of a full apprenticeship preferred, or equivalent experience

Minimum 2–5 years of experience as a fully qualified machinist (depending on skill depth)

Proficiency in CNC programming (conversational or G-code/CAM)

Strong understanding of machining theory, metal cutting principles, tool geometry, and machinedynamics

Ability to read and interpret advanced engineering documentation and models

Demonstrated success operating and setting up multiple machine types

Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities

Excellent communication skills with production and engineering teams

Team player who measures success by total output, not just individual performance

Ability to work independently, prioritize workloads, and meet tight deadlines

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Regular exposure to machining noise, coolant, water, metals, adhesives, and industrial equipment in a warehouse environment

Standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs with reasonable accommodation

Exposure to chemical and production smells (adhesives, lubricants, and rubber hose materials) typical of a hydraulic fabrication area

Use of PPE for frequent handling of parts and materials with sharp edges or heavy components

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate safely around industrial equipment

Must comply with all facility safety protocols and ITAR-access restrictions
